Certification Domains

Six domains. One integrated discipline.

The CCAIA-P Body of Knowledge is organized into six domains. Each domain represents a critical area of competence for the practicing cloud and AI enterprise architect.

Domain 1: Cloud Architecture Patterns

20%

Covers the identification, evaluation, and application of architectural patterns for distributed cloud systems. Includes multi-region deployment strategies, resilience patterns, service mesh topologies, and platform abstraction models.

Domain 2: AI Architecture & Integration

18%

Addresses the architectural considerations for integrating AI and machine learning capabilities into enterprise systems. Includes inference pipeline design, model lifecycle governance, responsible AI architecture, and integration with existing data platforms.

Domain 3: Security & Identity

17%

Focuses on identity federation, zero-trust architecture, encryption-at-rest and in-transit strategies, secrets management, and security governance across hybrid and multi-cloud environments.

Domain 4: Data & Integration Architecture

18%

Covers data platform design, event-driven integration, API governance, data mesh principles, and the architectural trade-offs between consistency, availability, and partition tolerance in distributed data systems.

Domain 5: Cost Optimization & Performance

12%

Addresses FinOps principles, workload right-sizing, performance benchmarking, auto-scaling strategy, and the relationship between architectural decisions and total cost of ownership.

Domain 6: Governance, Compliance & Risk Management

15%

Covers architectural governance frameworks, regulatory compliance mapping (GDPR, SOC 2, ISO 27001), risk assessment methodology, and the role of the architect in organizational governance structures.

Domain weights reflect the relative emphasis in assessment prompts and reflection guidance. Weights are reviewed annually by the Certification Standards Board.
